Two illustrations for the book “48 Laws of Power”

conceal-your-intentions2

Conceal Your Intentions
Keep people off-balance and in the dark by never revealing the purpose behind your actions. If they have no clue what you are up to, they cannot prepare a defence. Get them far enough down the wrong path, envelop them in enough smoke, and by the time they realize your intentions it will be too late.

Keep-your-hands-Clean3

Keep Your Hands Clean
You must seem a paragon of civility and efficiency. Your hands are never soiled by mistakes and nasty deeds. Maintain such a spotless presence by using others as scapegoats to disguise your involvement.

Spike-Jonze3

This is a portrait illustration of director Spike Jonze. We’ve all seen or want to see his latest film, Where The Wild Things Are, which was released 2 weeks ago. I’ve always loved his work, especially his music videos, they have a real charm to them that can only be referenced back to Jonze. This illustration was inspired by a web article I read a few weeks ago.

Here is a 2nd version and my first rough version I mocked up in illustrator. Most of the work in the final was done using illustrator as well, but a lot of blending and textures, as well as light was modified in photoshop. Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

LIMITED-ED.-POSTER

Here’s my final for a digital media assignment. The project was to create a unique designer toy as well as a limited edition print promoting your character. I named my character Pértsy, which I believe translates to hot peppers in Russian. It’s slang for “cool kids”.

The character and the poster were done entirely using Illustrator. This was my first attempt at using the gradient mesh tool, but I think I got a good handle on it. Click on the second image to enlarge it. The original dimensions were 8.5 by 11 inches, but I could see this being blown up to full poster size. I will probably end up reusing the scenery in this poster for the animation I am doing with Finlay Paterson.

Michael Jackson is Dead

Michael Jackson

This is my Final copy of a NY-Times Op-Ed illustration completed for my Digital Media studio class. The illustration is supposed to touch on the fact that many people are distracted by celebrities’ lives which can divert themselves from the responsibilities of coping with harsh reality. Had to be Black&White, done in AI CS4. -Mikellis

Assignment Info:
The New York Times is internationally renowned for its journalistic integrity and in depth reporting style. The Opinions section or OP-ED page (as it is known) has showcased the talents of many conceptual illustrators interpreting a variety of current events editorials and letters to the editor in a succinct and graphically bold manner. Originally assigned one day before publication, the 4 to 5 hour deadline is considered one of the most challenging assignments an illustrator will face in their editorial career.
