Borderline Artistic 1988
Mike Ellis was born on a sunny day in 1988 in Newmarket, Ontario. He enjoys a variety of mediums but leans towards the integration of analog and digital media. He is also a novice sculpture and installation artist. About to enter his thesis year at OCAD, he spends his time collecting things, especially comics, scraps of paper and bits of string. Too Much of A Good Thing
Here is my first comic assignment for Sequential Narrative 1, essentially a Comics/Graphic Novel class at OCAD. The assignment guidelines were to create a 4 panel comic with the phrase “Are you all right?” included within one of the panels. Though I feel some of my classmates may have not enjoyed this comic, I am quite pleased with it, I feel that it communicates exactly what I wanted. I am only hoping that throughout the semester others in the class will begin to explore the emotional side of comics and not just humour.
As the semester continues and I post new comics, I will probably include a post or two on my favourite/most important comics. I have a lot of work piling up, a lot of which needs to be scanned, so I will do that some time in the future. Very busy with assignments and gallery proposals for the summer, so when I have time there will be a lot of updates. Stay Tuned!
