Final for Paul Dallas’ class. The assignment was to illustrate our guilty pleasure, mine happened to be too much t.v. or the trashiness of what I end up watching late at night. The raccoon on the trash can and the eye displayed on the top television screen were elements I had added later to create more depth to the concept.
My inspiration for the style of this piece was taken from rotoscoping used in films such as “Waltz with Bashir” and “A Scanner Darkly”. Overall there were a few slip-ups in the final execution and colour correction, but I am about 80% happy with it.
Started with pen and pencil drawings, scanned into photoshop and retouched. T.V.s were coloured in Illustrator, Raccoon and trash can were done in Illustrator as well. I don’t usually work with dark imagery, so the whole pallet of this piece was a bit difficult for me to decide on. Everything was pieced together in photoshop and textures were added to each individual element to give more definition to the objects. A final overlay of coarse paper was added to the flattened image to give a bit more of a crafty feel to it.
