Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

So the semester is nearly over and I just had my last Illustration class. My final assignment was to create a book cover for the novel, Perfume: the story of a murderer, by Patrick Süskind. Funny thing is that my instructor picked the book and it turned out to be one of my favourites. I’ve read it 3 times over the past few years, so I highly recommend it. I chose to take a very graphic approach at this illustration, using only 3 colours, black, white and red. The background is one of my favourite parts, I bought it from Kid Icarus on Nassau St. in Toronto. It’s a great little screen printing boutique just down the street from my house. It’s an old victorian styled wall paper pattern that was silk screened onto brown paper. It was intended to be wrapping paper, but at 2 bucks a sheet it make a great background for a painting. I am also going to be working on 2 new posters this weekend, so those should be up within the next couple of days.
