BORDERLINE ARTISTIC 1988
My name is Mike Ellis. I sometimes work under the similar name mikellis.
I am a third year Illustration student at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Born in Newmarket, Ontario. I currently live and work in Toronto, Ontario.
EXPERIENCE
I have been working as a freelance Illustrator and designer since 2006. In the summer of 2008 I was awarded a small business Grant from the government of Ontario to develop the now defunct Glass Kids Skateboard Co.
Since then I have worked on many important projects and have overseen the development and curation of creative events. Aside from commercial illustration, I have exhibited artwork at AWOL, Whippersnapper Gallery, and Sleeping Giant, and the Foster Home.
I am the co-founder of Glass Kid Studios and am currently working on a series of 3D animations with Finlay Paterson.
I am also a founding contributor of the Toronto-based zine Fat City Wild Cat.

PRINT

My experience as an illustrator has carried into the realms of design. My work now features distinct design elements that incorporate inspiration from past eras. I have developed promotional materials, become an experienced printer, and overseen large areas of distribution. By incorporating printmaking techniques with a designer’s mentality I am able to produce high quality media with short turn-around times.

INSTALL

My work as an installation artist and sculpture artist began in late April 2010. As Co-curator of Today is Yesterday’s Tomorrow, a highly interactive and experiential exhibit, my recent work has taken on new meaning and greater conceptual principles.
