Another School Year…

Written by mikellis. Filed under Ramblings. No comments.

scrabblebeautiful2previewAnother school year has come to a successful finish! Though I don’t have any artwork to upload atm. I was handed back quite a few illustrations and paintings I had completely forgotten about, so once I venture to the school and have a big scanning party more artwork will soon populate some near-future posts. Also, I came across some great animations by Wizz for Mattel’s Scrabble board game, they came up with a great way of putting a new face on such an old (and extremely fun) game! Check it out:

In terms of summer projects, I have a few in the midst of pre-production. Today I began planning for a group show I will be participating in at Whippersnapper Gallery in June (more details to come soon). I will hopefully finish prepping all 15 canvases/boards by tonight and will possibly add more once I get back to toronto. I will be keeping these peices under lock-and-key until the show.

Second on my summer projects list will be a collective website space where a group of 10 artists will develop artwork together and post their processes and final works online. I want to try and bring real-life art direction and online blogging together to create a great hub for artists to showcase their talents as a group. Finlay Paterson will be working with me on the main site’s creation (details on this project will also be posted at a later date). Here is a basic description of the project (sans the name of the project):

The focus of this community blog is to expose the creative talents of youth under the age of 25. The 10 artists featured on [CC] work together in a live studio space located in downtown Toronto. Acting as a collective body, these artists take new initiative in creating bodies of work that push the boundaries of contemporary culture. The web space at [CC].com acts as a creative hub for these artists to document and share their collective experiences with the world.

I am hoping to have this endeavor under way within the next month. Though I am still in need of a curator or curatorial practices student to help with the organization of community members. If you or someone you know who might be interested in participating in this endeavor, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

I had the pleasure of creating this poster for the Flyboys. Watercolour paint, pencil, and photoshop.

I scanned in a few quick watercolour sketches from my sketchbook yesterday. I thought this one turned out kind of interesting:
